Why I am still saving my junk mail April 16, 2008

Filed under: Crafty — karrie @ 7:02 am

I am a little kitschy, and wouldn’t necessarily say I am always tasteful and stylish. Oh, and I am SO not a designer. So it is cool to see that the smarties at design*sponge think like me sometimes - they posted an inside out envelope tutorial too. I can’t resist pointing out that I did it a month earler :)

After I posted my inside-out-envelope tutorial, some back linking led me to the Junk Mail Gems blog. Wow! Gretchen is a master re-purposer with a shop filled with awesome recycled projects.
Security envelope paper beads at Junk Mail Gems

So with security envelopes still on the brain, and a giant pile growing on my desk, I used some to decorate some 3×5 recipe cards. I used a few round hole punches to add some accents.

Nice nice nice. It is the greatest free paper around. I even used some to make product tags for my fibery goods in prep for the upcoming Color Fiber Festival. (Can you tell that I am trying to link to the festival in every post… Is it obvious?)

Ahh, Summer holiday July 3, 2006

A few days ago I was the lucky recipient of a package from my Dye-o-rama pal, KnittinBritinWi.

dye-o-rama yarn

Isn’t it lovely?! It is made from Louet Gems Pearl which I have never used, so I am excited to try knitting it up. My package also included a yummy smelling soap and some lovely mohair bland Fiesta Yarn. Another new yarn to try! Thanks Pal!!

I took the day off today and am busy cooking up deliciousness for a 4th of July Beach BBQ tomorrow. I am baking some beans and making cucumber salad. Already chilling in the freezer is a batch of Aunt Weasies Bourbon Slushies (recipe below for those that are interested). I will use this as my number one defense against the beach sun and heat, which in northern California is not that bad. But last year it kicked my butt. what can I say, i am a wuss.

Cupcakes are cute. February 8, 2006

I made these for a superbowl party last
weekend.

Directions: Make a cake mix according to the directions on the box. Instead of pouring the
batter into a cake pan, pour it into ice cream cones. only fill them 2/3 full.
Bake according to the cake mix’s directions for cupcakes, and
decorate!
Let me tell you, this is not how they looked when I arrived at the party…..
