Sorry I haven’t been around in a while… hope you weren’t worried about me after the earthquake we had a few weeks ago…. I survived! It was the biggest one we’ve had since I have lived here, and it was a real shaker. The biggest avalanche I found was my desk at school.

While I was neglecting this blog, I got a mention on Apartment Therapy for my recipe cards - shout out to Apartment Therapy! Thanks! Speaking of recipe cards I got a few recipes as thanks via email today. Thanks Vicki! Oh! And one more LOOONG overdue shoutout to Joan over at AnthropoMorphCo… When I was frustrated at the lack of cute recipe cards, I mentioned to her that her veggies would be perfect for recipe cards. So she made some! And they are sweet!

You can pick some up in her etsy shop.

Let’s see what else have I been up to… well, I followed this advice(scroll down) to prepare myself for the release of the new Harry Potter book. I’m mostly muggle and have only read one book (desperately bored at my parents house one Christmas). I recently saw the new movie (in which Harry is an intolerable Skywalker-ish whiny teen. Enough with the orphan drama). But after brushing up on the ol’ Potter storyline I knew what to do when I ran across a copy of the book. I picked it up and read the last two chapters. HA!! Now I am a big spoiler waiting to happen.

Finally, when i would have normally been posting here, I was playing with colors over at COLOURLovers. Ever since I went King Salmon fishing, I have had some colors stuck in my head. This was a much easier way to get them out than trying to dye yarn or roving :) See how this

made me think of this

Alaskan King Salmon. Of you go play over there, i am ‘girlontherocks’ so send some votes my way….

Oh! I just remembered that I haven’t entered anything for Whiplash this month… I think I can sneak in just under the wire. Off to craft!

Thank you Internets! July 12, 2007

Filed under: Tales of Knitting — karrie @ 1:15 pm

Working at home sure has its advantages… You can compose a blog post on your lunch hour, and you can enjoy whip up delicious treats at a moments notice.

I added some fruit to a glass of Odwalla Limeade, and I am ready to face the afternoon.

I am a litle remiss is in thanking the internet for the goodies it provided me as of late… For simply entering her blog contest liquidgirl sent me a consolation prize

Adorable stitch markers. Thanks! Stop by and check out her self-designed row counters. Now I finally understand how those things work.

A shout out to Liz the genius behind Hobbledehoy Handspun. I won her blog contest and she sent me a beautiful skein of handspun.

Stop by her shop and even if you don’t want to buy anything, you can get inspired - her handspun is beautiful!

I think I still have one overdue thank you which I am mentioning in case that someone is reading. Don’t worry, that random gift will warrant a post all it’s own… (cryptic, huh?).

And I finally a note to add that I cannot believe how shitty it is that my blog is rated G. G!! Can you believe that?? Apparently they can’t appreciate the Juicifixion post, because that is not for children. Clearly assholes designed the rating system. Hopefully this paragraph will at least get me up to PG. We’ll see (Thanks JenLa!).

I knit a little sweater July 9, 2007

Filed under: Finished Projects, non-knitting related — karrie @ 10:34 am

I bought a blythe doll a while ago, and have been dying to make some clothes for her. This weekend i whipped up a little sweater for her. It was quick and loads of fun. I knit it in the round out of some Lisa Souza sock yarn (Heels and Toes from Stitches West) then steeked it open and added trim (Sirdar snowflake - the tangliest yarn in the universe). the end result is like a jacket with furry trim.

Doesn’t the photo look really artsy? That’s because I used my new $4 Kodak Duaflex II to take the picture. The technique is called “Through the Viewfinder” and you use a modern camera to take a picture of the image in the large viewfinder of the old Duaflex or similar cameras. I first noticed this technique through the Make blog, or Flickr, i can’t remember which. I’ve had my eye out for a suitable camera ever since, and I found one for only $4 this weekend. I just used a cardboard poster tube to support my old digital camera. No taping yet, but it would be nice to get rid of the light leaks.

Etsy shopping - Gifts for knitters/spinners

Filed under: Etsy Shopping — karrie @ 5:42 am

Sometimes the things that I find on etsy are so good I have to share. Most of the goodies in this post will appeal to knitters or spinners, but I have another gift idea post in mind and it will be coming soon.

The softest fiber ever
Okay, maybe it is not the softest alpaca ever, but it sure is nice. A whole hunk of soft grey alpaca from North Star Alpacas.

One of my favorite things about this fiber is that I get to know exactly who it came from.. Oh, not just the seller, the actual animal. Thanks Chewbaca!

The best stitch markers for tiny needles
I was admiring the complete adorableness of Jeremy’s Monkey post when a little set of stitch markers caught my eye. So tiny, so simple, so cute. So I ran over to Hide and Sheep and hooked myself up with some. Here they are on US #1 DPN’s.

See how they are totally not in the way? And they are virtually snag-proof. Genius. They are available for a pretty large range of needle sizes, and arrived packaged in a handy little tin.

Oh and they are such a deal. RUN over there and get some.

The gift set that no sock knitter can live without
In an act of shameless self-promotion (hey, it is my webpage) I bring you the Sock Knitter’s Gift set. It is one of my Sock Knitter’s needle cases (Where DPN’s, and circular needles live in perfect harmony) paired with a set of Kitchener Stich Markers for a wicked good price.

You can have your choice of needle case. Speaking of my shop… I am having a SALE!! Free US shipping, and 10% off of everything until Midnight Pacific Tuesday July 10. I am too lazy to re-price everything, so you will need to wait for an invoice before sending your payment.

Vegas Trip July 4, 2007

Filed under: Socks, non-knitting related — karrie @ 8:00 am

As you might have suspected, I travelled to Vegas for Debbie’s wedding by an Elvis. The ceremony was fantastic and certainly the highlight of my stay.

When we arrived at the Frontier, we discovered that it is closing in two weeks. This made for a general sense of impending doom around our hotel, so that was a bit depressing. Nonetheless, I was happy to admire the old decor and awesome neon sign before it is gone. It is possible that I am a bit of a curse, since the Westward Ho faced the same fate shortly after my first visit.

from abmatic

I felt so vegasy sitting by the pool in 100 degree heat looking at palm trees and casinos (and no, I did not get in).

I also did a tiny bit of knitting (some by the pool). Socks from the top down of my own design for my lovely Twisted sock yarn. I am definitely reconsidering the idea of socks from the top down.

Thinking of knitting on vacation? i just noticed that the new Stash and Burn podcast is about just that. Check it out!
