So close to done

Filed under: Karrie's Current Projects, sweater — karrie @ 1:44 pm

I am so close to finishing my rogue hoody that i am wearing it right now. Everything but the zipper. I don’t have any pictures of the finished object, but i do have a picture of the sleeves blocking on my high-tech blocking board (towels on a cardboard box).

I had already started the drop stitch cardigan from the Fall 2005 interweave knits, and now i am flying
along. knitting on 9’s helps.

There you have a very curly back piece, and ~1.5 out of two front pieces. I remain slightly disappointed in the color. I didn’t realize it was going to have so much green in it. here is the photo I saw on the handpaintedyarn.com webpage:

Doesn’t it look like brown, blue, and white? or maybe really light green? I have another finished object to report on, but I will save that for another post.

Is January almost over already? January 23, 2006

I would have thought I cold have finished my
rogue sweater by now, but alas….. I have made some progress on the sleeves of
my rogue. i am about half way through the sleeve cap shaping. I have decided
to attempt an applied i-cord edge to the front where i will install the zipper.
Found some good directions over at the keyboard biologist’s
blog
.If you ever need to make a simple knitting chart check out Microrevolt’s Knitpro. you can take jpeg, gif or png and it will turn it into a chart for you. the possibilities are endless. The entire reason that i am putting this link here is for my own reference. I had seen
this before, but it took me forever to find it again.

I have completed most of the body parts on my little crocheted rabbit, and I must say he is freaking cute. The big challenge is going to be his hat since it will need ear holes cut out of
it.

Finally, I am very excited about the new knitting needle case I made. It is a very small case that I designed primarily for holding my sock knitting DPN’s and circular needles… So i bring
you the ‘ Sock Knitters needle case’

This is the one that I am keeping for myself, but you can buy similar ones in my shop. I made a few without the little stitch marker holding ribbon, then I decided it was worth the
work of installing it, since I always use mine. It has 2 pockets for circular
needles in the front, and the back row is for DPN’s. New features include the
introduction of a snap closure (thank you target="NewWindow">snapsource). It folds in half, and looks just
like a billfold. I also used heavy cotton canvas for the outside (red) and it
provides just the right amount of support so the case isn’t too
floppy.

This has got to be the absolute perfect gift for a sock knitting secret
pal!!

Someone asked how I make the tags attached to my items. I designed a small Iogo and used word processing software to duplicate it all over a page using a label template. Then I printed them onto some ink-jet iron-on T-shirt transfers and cut them out. I ironed them on to
small pieces of ribbon that I can sew into everything. They are pretty cheap,
and fully customizable. In fact, you could make them in color too! Some
people print from their printer directly on to fabric - I haven’t tried this. i
wish i could take credit for this great idea, but I found it over at craftster.

Amigurumi January 16, 2006

Filed under: Karrie's Current Projects — karrie @ 12:28 pm

While I am in the home stretch of my rogue (about
to do the sleeve cap shaping) I have excitedly taken on a new project. A
non-crafty friend of mine saw a cute little crocheted bunny and asked me if I
could make something like that. Of course I can! i
think….i know that little crocheted stuffed animals are often a japanese style called amigurumi. There was an amigurumi contest on
etsy
, and that is how I became aware of it.That is really all I know
about that…. Oh and you can find a pattern set in english from Roxycraft. So I
got started and it is going well.

I got his little plastic eyes at michaels, and I am pretty unsatisfied with them. Anyone know of a good place to
get eyes?
